• Under 18? Create a custodial brokerage account with the help of an adult sponsor, usually a parent. They'll also make a Birdwingo account to guide you. Your custodial account is fully functional, allowing you to trade and invest with the approval of your parent.

• 18 and above? Open your personal Birdwingo brokerage account. Optionally, add a child's sub-account or invest solo.

Can I use Birdwingo if I’m over 18?

Of course! At 18 or older, you can open your brokerage account and tap into all Birdwingo's features. Is Birdwingo safe?

Yes. The safety of your investments is our top priority:

• Insurance for your money. Your investments are legally insured up to $500 000 (~ 450 000 €) per user under the Securities Investor Protection Corporation scheme. In addition to this, your money is insured up to €50,000 per user under the standard European Investor Compensation Scheme. Cherry on top, Birdwingo is also commercially insured against incidents.

• Regulatory oversight. Operations are fully backed by our partner Wealth Effect Management, which is a fully registered stock broker regulated by the National Bank of Slovakia with the ability to onboard users from any EU country. Why do I need a parent to start if I’m below 18?

In Europe, you can’t legally have your own investment account until you reach the age of 18, but your parent can help you open a custodial brokerage account through which you’ll be able to invest under your parent’s guidance.

What is a custodial account?

A custodial account is an investment account opened by an adult (the sponsor) for someone under 18. The sponsor oversees the account but must act in the teen's best interest. Upon reaching 18, parents can opt to transfer the investments to the young adult's ownership.

What happens when my child turns 18?

At 18, parents can choose to transfer the assets to their child's official ownership.

Who can be my sponsor?

You just need a legal adult over the age of majority to act as your sponsor, in most cases a parent.

Your sponsor will have their own Birdwingo account and have some visibility until you reach the age of 18.

What happens to my investments if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your child’s subscription, their account will be restricted to closing or reducing positions only. You can restore your subscription at any time!
